VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Non-Medical Assistance & Transportation Volunteer

DUTIES: Transport Triangle Helping Hands clients to and from medical appointments to locations in the greater Triangle area; Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill. Stay and accompany client as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 25 years or older and show 100/300 car insurance; please ask you insurance co

Must have valid North Carolina driver's license and clean driving record & no criminal record

Access to a reliable vehicle with a current vehicle registration and vehicle insurance card

Sensitive to the client and tactful in both attitude and conversation

Be supportive of the client’s concerns but do not give medical advice or counseling

Reliable and punctual

Professional demeanor and ability to maintain confidentiality

Access to telephone; able to use and follow a schedule

Ability to keep accurate mileage records in accordance with given procedures

TRAINING REQUIRED AND/OR PROVIDED BY AGENCY: in house training

TIME REQUIRED: Time varies with individuals' medical appointments and needs.

BENEFITS AVAILABLE TO VOLUNTEER: Tax-Free Reimbursement of mileage at the current rate of $.505/mile, tolls and parking with printed receipts. The reimbursement you earn will not affect Social Security Disability, Food Stamps or SSI status. The rate is tied to the Federal government's allowance which means that any reimbursement at $.505/mile and below is not considered income. Please contact your tax specialist to determine your individual tax situation.

TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER DRIVER: Fill out a job application and submit with resume, provide permissions and information for a criminal background check, child abuse/maltreatment clearance and driving record clearance

Be available for a personal interview & orientation

Provide 3 references, one of which should be a current or previous employer (references will be checked)

Agree to abide by confidentiality and other guidelines
